http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 confirm a hectic season including a Test match against Pakistan
The Zimbabwean cricket will finally be hosting home series involving top international teams this year after the ICC World Cup 2011. This will also give the national team a chance to redeem itself after giving a despicable performance in the ongoing
mega event in the subcontinent.
Zimbabwe Cricket’s managing director, Ozias Bvute confirmed the upcoming hectic season starting from July that includes ODIs against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 A.
Speaking to newsmen he said, “The Zimbabwe Cricket team is scheduled to have a busy schedule in 2011 — 2012 season commencing in August. Tours have been confirmed with Bangladesh, Pakistan, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 and a triangular series against South Africa and
Australian ‘A’ sides.”
He hoped that matches against tough sides would help in raising the standard of the national team which has slumped in the recent years due to lack of international cricket.
“There is a lot of disappointment after our inability to progress to the quarter-finals at the World Cup, however, given the schedule of matches lined up over the next four years we feel this should adequately prepare our team for the next World Cup,”
said Bvute.
Zimbabwe won only two matches out of the six fixtures that they played in the World Cup this year. They failed to qualify for the knock-out stages of the tournament because of carrying just four points from their wins.
Zimbabwean cricket has been suffering isolation from international teams because of the political turmoil in the African state. However, things are looking better now which is why international cricket will be returning to the country this year.
A member of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also confirmed the participation of the Pakistan team in three ODIs and a Test match in Harare and Bulawayo. According to details the series between Pakistan will take place in the month of August.
According to details Australia has named a formidable A team for the tour of Zimbabwe which is set to begin from July this year. However, according to sources in the Zimbabwean cricket board New Zealand, Pakistan and Bangladesh have not yet announced
their squads for their respective tours to the country. Nonetheless, it would be wise of the authorities in Zimbabwe to expect full strength squads from these countries.
Perhaps the series with Bangladesh will be the most exciting as both teams are equally good and will fight it out against each other to prove the other one a weaker outfit.
