Zimbabwe series likely to see new faces in Pakistan squad, hints Mohsin Khan – Cricket News Update
The Chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045, where the Green Shirts will play a Test match, two Twenty20 Internationals and three One Day Internationals
(ODIs).
Speaking to newsmen, the 56-year-old Khan said, “There is some outstanding talent in some of the players and they will definitely get a chance. The selection committee has always preferred youngsters but this time we may increase the number of the upcoming
players.”
According to the chief selector, the country has immense young talent which will help the PCB in creating a formidable backup for the players in the national team.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319, who was an opening batsman during most part of his career while playing for Pakistan from 1977 to 1986, reiterated that the PCB has always stressed on the need for younger players in the national squad but this time more opportunities will be given
to the upcoming cricketers to play for the home side, in a bid to nurture a new generation of cricketers, who will carry the national team once the senior players take their final bows.
He revealed that the selection committee will be holding a meeting to prepare an initial list of names for the Zimbabwean series; however, the list will be finalized by the Chairman PCB, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, who is currently on vacation.
Khan, who is looking after the batsmen at PCB’s ongoing Fast Track Coaching Programme as a batting coach, revealed that he had seen enormously talented youngsters in the camp and all coaches were working really hard to prefect the techniques of the players.
In an earlier interview, he had insisted that after the coaching programme it will be up to the cricketers to impress the selectors by giving exceptional performances in domestic cricket to get a chance to represent the country at the International level.
Meanwhile, the former batsman rubbished reports suggesting that he would be the batting coach of the national team for the Zimbabwe tour.
“There is no such development. The board hasn’t approached me,” Khan clarified.
