Zimbabwe tour of Bangladesh 2010: Tigers lead the series 2-1 as they win by 65 runs
Bangladesh dominated the third One Day International (ODI) against Zimbabwe as they won by 65 runs. Bangladesh’s unwilling captain, Shakib Al http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990 continued his good form as he hit a half century to lead the five match series
2-1.
Shakib might feel that he is not ready to captain, but his wisely decisions about his side’s spin attack helped Bangladesh win the 3rd ODI.
The match was being played at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium with the heavenly doors of rain forecasted for the morning. Zimbabwe won the toss and decided to take the field first. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 found themselves in a dangerous spot
as the top order fell, reminiscing the first ODI that Zimbabwe won by nine runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SW-Masakadza-c2615 as Bangladesh
were stuttering at five runs.
Next in, Imrul Kayes also struggled hard to find gaps along with Raqibul Hasan as they added 42 runs together. However, Hasan (1 run off 7 balls) soon fell victim to Utseya’s delivery as he took the first wicket of his four-wicket
haul.
It was up to the captain to drive his team out of danger, as he has become the one for the Tigers to perform when the top order collapses. Shakib again took a calculated approach as he chose to stick with singles and doubles, hitting
boundaries only when he found gaps. After smashing his sixth boundary, Kayes was caught off Utseya’s next delivery by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tatenda-Taibu-c92882.
Shakib found his support in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mushfiqur-Rahim-c2045 as he came to the crease. Together with Rahim, the duo propelled their team to 187 runs from 71 for 4 without the loss of a wicket. Shakib smashed five boundaries en route to his half
century. Rahim continued his fiendish stroke play to hit a six and five fours. Just as he made 63 runs off 86 balls, Utseya, who was acting as a stand-in for an injured Zimbabwean captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Elton-Chigumbura-c55937, took his third wicket as Rahim attempted to sweep
him at backward square.
Utseya rounded up his four-wicket haul as he took the main wicket of the Tigers camp. Utseya tactfully trapped Shakib (73 runs off 91 balls) as he attempted a reverse-scoop soon after the batting Powerplay was called. Bangladesh,
however, had already made their highest score in the One Day series.
The lower order of the Tigers line-up tried to tackle the Zimbabwean attack as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naeem-Islam-c2053 remained unbeaten at 23 runs and Mashrafe Mortaza (11 not out) contributed to make 246 runs in 50 overs for the loss of seven wickets. Bangladesh
finished at a reasonably modest total given the woeful start by the openers.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045’s bowling attack was dominated by Utseya who took four wickets off 38 runs whereas Mpofu and Shingirai Masakadza took one wicket each.
Zimbabwe began their chase confidently with Brendon http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 and Chamu Chibhabha fighting resiliently against the threatening Tigers spin attack. However, as soon as Abdur Razzak found his form, the onslaught of the spinners unleashed
on the Zimbabwean batsmen.
Razzak took his first wicket as he dismissed Chibhabha for 7 runs off 10 balls. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamilton-Masakadza-c61354 (3 runs of 13 balls) was the next victim of Razzak as he attempted to charge on the ball against the spin as wicketkeeper Mushfiqur
Rahim stumped the stunned batsman. Razzak took his third wicket as Taylor (15 runs off 28 balls) edged the ball, which fell comfortably in Junaid Siddique’s hands. Now, Zimbabwe were struggling at 29 runs for the loss of three wickets.
Razzak rested after taking three wickets and Shafiul Islam took up the ball who quickly took the wicket of Craig Ervine (5 runs off 7 balls). http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mashrafe-Mortaza-c1917 took his only wicket as he dismissed Taibu (3 runs off 23 balls).
As Taibu’s and Regis Chakabva’s (5 runs off 18 balls) wickets fell, Zimbabwe were stuttering at 47 for the loss of six wickets. It seemed to be a one-sided affair; however, as Zimbabwean stand-in captain Utseya took the crease,
he smashed three boundaries and three sixes to complete his half century. He made 67 runs off 101 balls, yet he failed to find the support he needed to win the match. The tail-enders kept on falling around him as Shafiul rounded up the last wicket of Utseya.
Man of the Match, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Razzaq-c84421 had his career best figures taking four wickets off 14 balls, whereas Shafiul Islam also took 4-43.
The teams will head off to Chittagong where they will play the last two ODIs.
