http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 2011: Zimbabwe Cricket dismisses Tatenda Taibu’s allegations – Cricket News Update
Zimbabwe Cricket has expressed disappointment over Tatenda Taibu’s recent remarks against the cricket body, stating that there is no truth in the former skipper’s allegations.
Earlier, Taibu lashed out at the Zimbabwe Cricket Board, accusing the administration of not paying players their monthly salaries. He also claimed that the body is moving towards a collapse since it has
failed to resolve the issues plaguing national cricket. Talking about his personal contract, he shared that the governing body has not yet awarded him with the contract, adding that players have not received match fees since August 2010.
Taibu’s comments came just a couple days before the start of the Test match between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, set to be played from Thursday August 4, to August 8, 2011.
Responding to Taibu’s charges, Zimbabwe Cricket released a press release, saying that the players, including Taibu, are being paid their match fees regularly.
"Neither Tatenda nor any of the other national players have ever not been paid their monthly salary. Match fees, paid over and above salaries, have been deferred from time to time while cash-flow improves
with our return to international cricket,” said the statement released by the Cricket’s governing body in Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Zimbabwe selection committee, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alistair-Douglas-Ross-Campbell-c43655, lamented over Taibu’s statement and said that being the most senior member, the wicket-keeper batsman should have shown responsibility.
The 28-year-old batsman is the most experienced fellow in the current Rhodesian side, having 24 Tests and 136 ODIs under his belt.
Campbell also made clear that such comments could easily put Taibu in trouble but Zimbabwe Cricket has decided not to take any actions against the former captain since the crucial tour to Bangladesh is
about to commence.
"Tatenda is in an extremely privileged position and his monthly salary places him in the top one percent of the population. There are many thousands of people less well off than Tatenda who could be seriously
harmed by his comments," added the media release jointly issued by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Campbell-c49176 and the Managing Director, Ozias Bvute.
When asked whether the controversy will make an impact on players’ performance, the chairman of selector hoped that the side will not pay any heed to rumours and produce good results.
