http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 v New Zealand: Only Test at Bulawayo, Day-1 – Second Session Report
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 have reached 179 for two at tea on the first day of the one-off Test against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo on Tuesday, November 1, 2011.
The second session of the opening day had everything; fall of wickets, boundaries and a lot of exciting cricket. After choosing to bat first, the Black Caps started off their innings on a high and piled up 98 for loss of one wicket in the morning session.
The explosive opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Guptill-c1980 and the number-three position batsman, Kane
Williamson, continued the good work till the last ball before the lunch.
The duo perpetuated their good run to the second session and batted well during the first few overs after the break. Guptill completed his half-century but Williamson could not enjoy same feat. Due to a huge mix up between the two batsmen, he ran himself
out when he was looking dangerous on 49.
Although, the Zimbabwean bowlers got the much-needed breakthrough, they failed to impose any pressure on the tourists. The Kiwi skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LRPL-Taylor-c1849, joined hands with Guptill at the wicket and the two batsmen started taking advantage of the chances provided
by the Rhodesians.
In the remainder of the session, both batsmen played positive cricket and clattered runs a very good pace. At the end of the second session, Guptill and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 were unbeaten on 74 and 33 respectively.
So far in the match, Jarvis is the only successful bowler for Zimbabwe, as he showed McCullum the way back to the pavilion. Despite the fact that the rest of bowlers tried their best, they are yet to open their account.
After being hammered in the ODI series, the home side was expected to show some spark but the fans are still waiting for that moment. Taylor and men are in a good position and therefore, an imposing total in the first innings is on the cards for the visiting
side.
