Zimbabwe v New Zealand - Zimbabweans close but not close enough – Cricket News Update
New Zealand held their nerves to defeat Zimbabwe by 34 runs in the solitary Test match of the tour, played at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo.
The hosts put up a valiant effort and got close to New Zealand’s total but still they were not close enough, as the visitors end their tour by emerging victorious in all three formats.
Former skipper of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DL-Vettori-c1384, was the Kiwis' best bowler of the match and notched eight wickets in the match. Vettori was also very handy with the bat and scaled 71 runs for his side. The left-arm spinner was declared
Player of the Match for his performance.
Vettori was delighted to meet the expectations associated with him and said, “Luckily the ball kept low in the final session. I though Brendan Taylor's innings was class and it was only once we got him out that we believed we can
win. There's always expectations of me because I've been around so long and I was glad I could produce today.”
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LRPL-Taylor-c1849 praised the Zimbabwean team for pushing the Black Caps down to the wire. Taylor, who was playing in his first Test match as a skipper, was content with the result and said, “ It was a h**l of a Test match. We were in
a position where we could either go for it or hold back. Full credit to Zimbabwe for putting us under pressure. I think I got a bit of luck with the bowling changes. This was my first Test as captain and I don't think there would have been many harder introductions
to Test captaincy. I think my declaration was right.”
The Kiwis set a target of 366 runs for Zimbabwe to chase in their second innings. The African side lost two wickets before close of play on day four with 61 runs on the board.
However, the Zimbabwean skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045.
