Zimbabwe win toss and elect to field against Sri Lanka - ICC World Cup 2011
Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to field first in a Group A match of the ICC World Cup 2011 against Sri Lanka, being played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Sri Lanka.
The wicket at Pallekele has support for both bowlers and the batsmen in it. The fast bowlers will get some bounce and swing with the new cherry, while the batsmen can also score plenty of runs, if they apply themselves. However, bowling second will not be
easy at the venue, considering the amount of dew that falls in the evening.
This will be the second international match played at Pellekele. The first match was played between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 at this venue on 8th March, in which the Kiwi team was victorious by 110 runs.
Considering the result of that match, the African team may have misread the conditions. However, they will be looking forward to restrict the hosts below the 250-run mark in order to give themselves a chance.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 have made one change to their playing 11 for today’s match. They have dropped flamboyant batsman Charles Coventry, who was promoted to the opening position for the World Cup. However, Coventry failed to make an impression in the matches he has played
so far, which forced the management to drop him.
Coventry has been replaced by tall medium pacer Chris Mpofu. He may come in handy for his team in today’s match, as the ball will seam early. On the other hand, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 have also made one change to their team, bringing in seamer Thisara Perera in place
of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajantha-c42419 Mendis.
The hosts will be look forward to making the most of the conditions at Pallekele. They will be eyeing a score in excess of 300 runs, which will be a very challenging total on this wicket.
They also have the depth in their bowling attack to defend any total against their opponents. A win today will help Sri Lanka move into top spot in Group A for the time being.
On the other hand, Zimbabwe will be eying a victory today, as it will give them a chance to qualify for the quarter-final stages.
