Sources have confirmed that the French international will be heading to Santiago Bernabeu next week to complete his dream transfer move to the Spanish giants.
Reports have indicated that the former Real Madrid player, who is currently working as a special advisor to the club president, played a decisive role along with Jose Mourinho in enticing Varane to join the Spanish capital club.
Having played 22 games for the French outfit in the season ended, Varane was tracked by some of elite clubs across Europe, including the likes of Manchester United, Lille, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
Since the details of his transfer are still to be made public, it is believed that he will put pen to paper on a five-year contract for a fee believed to be in the reign of 10 to 14 million Euros.
La Liga runner-ups, Real Madrid, were touted as Varane’s next destination after Zidane and Jose Mourinho tried to lure the midfielder away from France. With the player’s dream now turning into a reality, Zidane has now claimed he played a leading role in
the deal.
“I played an active role in the transfer. He is a quality player and has an incredible future ahead of him. The fact that he saw Jose Mourinho was very important. This is the most important because he is the coach who will lead the team. They met. And essentially
that's it.” Zidane revealed.
The French legend believes that the transfer of the France under-21 will be a huge step forward in his career. While drawing comparisons with the French legend, Laurent Blanc, Zidane said that the youngster has all the ingredients to become a good player.
“Varane has a great future. The fact many top clubs wanted him is an indication he has talent. I am also happy because he is French. I have watched plenty of Varane and he is like Blanc, fast, intelligent and he is a big player also.” Zidane added.
Critics believe that Real Madrid would benefit by having the latest French sensation on board. Better still, there defensive woes might take a turn for good now.
