Zinedine Zidane says Jose Mourinho is ideal for Real Madrid
Real Madrid icon Zinedine Zidane has spoken of his belief that Jose Mourinho is ideal the ideal man to manage the club.
The Portuguese coach moved to the Spanish capital over the summer after winning the treble of the UEFA Champions League, Serie A and Italian Cup with Inter Milan last season. He also enjoyed tremendous success with Chelsea, with whom he won the English Premier
League twice, as well as with Porto in his homeland, where he won his first Champions League title.
Now, the 47-year-old is targeting Madrid’s first La Liga title in three years; he is also looking for further success on the European stage.
In an interview with Spanish daily newspaper Marca, 38-year-old Zidane said that Mourinho’s reputation, as well as his strict training regime and style of management make him the perfect appointment for the post.
“The team needed a change, a coach with personality, but with a firm hand, and I think he fits the profile. For me, Jose Mourinho was what Real Madrid needed. I have a lot of trust in Mourinho, as well as in the players in which we have, because the majority
are young and have a lot of quality.”
Mourinho has had a good record at Madrid so far. His considerable knowledge of defensive tactics has meant that he is yet to suffer defeat with the Spanish giants, but he did initially struggle to ignite the attacking prowess of Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano
Ronaldo.
Madrid stuttered to a 0-0 draw on the opening day of the season at Real Mallorca, before following that up with narrow wins over Osasuna and Real Sociedad. A flattering 3-0 win over Espanyol followed, but they dropped points in a goalless stalemate at Levante.
The attackers finally showed off what they were capable of as they made the most of numerous chances to demolish Deportivo de la Coruna 6-1 last weekend.
