Zinedine Zidane set to assist Jose Mourinho
Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane is set to join hands with manager Jose Mourinho and assist him at pitch-side.
Currently, Zidane is acting as special advisor to Real’s chairman. Reports from Spain claim that the Frenchman has met with the club’s chairman Florentino Perez and General Manager Jorge Valdano, to discuss his new proposed role.
The deal can see Zidane pairing up with Mourinho, to assist the manager on the sidelines. It is believed that the former Los Blancos star will accompany Madrid’s 1st team, who travel to AC Milan in mid-week for their UEFA Champions’ League group
stage clash.
Jose was the one who persuaded Zinedine to get closer to the team rather than sitting in the Director offices.
Earlier, this month the Portuguese said, “I would like to have him more with me and less with the president.”
In reply to Mourinho’s proposal the 38 year old Frenchman has come out and suggested that he will relish the chance of working with ‘the special one’.
Zidane said, “I will work with him, this will be seen in the coming weeks. I will be the link between the first team and the president. In a way this suits me more, because I wanted to get more involved in the structure of the
club."
Zinedine Zidane is considered as one of the most successful players ever to embrace the game. He won the FIFA World Cup in 1998, The European Championship in 2000 and has been voted FIFA World Player of the year 3 times during
his glittering career.
In the 225 appearances that he made for the Spanish giants, Zinedine scored 49 goals. During his playing days in Spain, Zidane helped bring domestic and European success to Bernabeu. The talisman won the Spanish La Liga in 2002,
and scored the famous left-footed volley to clinch the UEFA Champions League title, the same year.
Although the exact role of the Frenchman is still to be seen, his wealth of playing experience at the top level will help The Whites relive their glory days.
