  1. There are as many zip codes as there are communes (cities, towns, villages) in Rhône-Alpes. Rhône-Alpes is a very large region composed of 8 départements, each département gives the first two digits of the 5-digit zip code:

    - Haute savoie : 74

    - Savoie : 73

    - Ain: 01

    - Rhône: 69

    - Loire: 42

    - Ardèche: 07

    - Drôme: 26

    - Isère: 38

Lyon being a large city, it has 9 arrondissements, therefore 9 zip codes: 69001 to 69009. The closer to 000 the last 3 digits are, the larger the city usually. So the préfecture (local "capital") of each département ususally has a zip code in XX000 (Grenoble: 38000).

If you have a specific town in mind, enter it there and click on 'rechercher', it will give you the zip code. http://www.codespostaux.com/home/

  2. ChocoBN is right; Rhône-Alpes is a region, not a town. If you know the name of the town, I'll be happy to research it for you. Otherwise you can always check the English version of the French Postal Service's website: http://www.laposte.com/

  3. Yes, they are right - each town has it's own code - the first two numbers are the department which covers a very large area. The next three numbers are the town or "commune".
