Hi, I just bought a new zippo, and it was workng fine till after id used it for awhile. first off, is it ok for the flame to be 'spluttering' or 'popping' constantly? and now it takes a few strikes to light it, also the lid sets alight on the inside quite allot!, and finally, the main question, i thought it was supposed to be windproof. It was abit windy outside, so i thought id test it, it was lit for abit then went out?

  1. The lid catches fire when it's over filled and some fluid seeps from the lower chamber to the lid while in your pocket.

Adjust and play with the wick to get an even burn.  Pull a bit more wick out with a needle nose pliers, usually even with the shroud is fine.  You can also fluff the wick a bit with a toothpick.

The windproof part happens because the wick has wires woven into it.  When lit, the wires get red hot and relights the wick during windy conditions.  A zippo is a roof workers best friend - if they smoke :)

If yer lighter gets hard to light try blowing on the wick to blow away an overly rich fuel mixture surrounding the wick.

Invest in a belt case for the Zippo.  It keeps the lighter upright so the fuel stays put and keeps you from getting butt burns and rashes if fuel should leak while in your pocket.
