hi i just bought a new zippo lighter and when i got home to fill it up and but some flint in it, it was hard to open up at first is it because its brand new and it needs to getting use to it being so brand new?

Yes, because it has been put together by machines and packaged and cold as h**l until you first light it.

The rivet on the lid holder will loosen as you open and close it and as you heat it by lighting it.

after about a month of constant use you will be able to flip it open with that "Zippo Pizazz" and the more you light it and refill it the easier the hinges and rivets will be to move around.
