http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Zlatan-Ibrahimovic-c38029 insists that he never wanted to harm Stephane Ruffier, during Paris Saint-Germain’s game against AS Saint-Etienne. The player claims that it was an accident, and the red-card was a harsh decision against him.
Ibrahimovic was sent-off during the game between Paris Saint-Germain and AS Saint-Etienne due to a career-threatening tackle by the Swede. The player was shown a red card as he kicked the Les Verts’ goalkeeper in the chest, while attempting to take a chance
for his team.
The former AC Milan forward believes that he had no intention of charging on the goalkeeper, and the clash was nothing more than an accident. Moreover, the striker said that he rather tried to save Ruffier rather than harm him, as he tried to protect him
by bending his leg while trying to shoot against him.
The 31-year-old said that it happened so quickly that he didn’t had the time to think about it. Yet he still did what he could in order to protect himself and the goalkeeper. Ibra said:
“The situation was a little confused because the referee asked us what had happened. He did not seem very sure of himself. I felt that he had not seen [the] action. Afterwards, he brandished a red card and I accepted his decision.”
The Swede urged that the referee mistook his intentions, and that his objective was never to hurt the former AS Monaco stopper. He said:
“Obviously, I never meant to hurt the opposing goalkeeper. I played the ball and I [saw] it happen at the last moment.”
The PSG forward feels disappointed for being sent-off, as he went on complaining about it. The player defended his actions, saying that he acted like a professional should. The Ligue 1 leading goal scorer tried to explain the situation:
“Fortunately, my leg was not straight. If this were the case, he might never have played football again. Anyway, I bent my leg to absorb the shock, while also protecting me upon contact. This is football.”
