Zo Impressive likely to run in Coaching Club American Oaks
The Grade 1, $300,000 TVG Coaching Club American Oaks is most likely to be Zo Impressive’s next start, after her wonderful success in the Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park last weekend.
The Grade 1, $600,000 Alabama Stakes is another good option, but if she trains well, the connections will bring her in the Oaks, which is scheduled to be held at Saratoga Race Course on July 21st.
“She came out of the race great. We’re going to look at the Coaching Club; if she’s training well, that will likely be her next start, or the Alabama,” said the trainer, Thomas Albertrani.
The Mother Goose Stakes was Zo Impressive’s maiden Grade 1 success. After making two winning trips at Gulfstream Park, the filly stepped into the graded events at the end of March, when she finished as a runner-up in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Oaks Stakes.
She continued her good form at Belmont Park, but luck was not on her side. The Grade 1 TVG Acorn Stakes saw her ending up second behind, Contested.
Although, she ran quite brilliantly that day, but it was almost impossible for her to challenge the leading runner.
An unlucky outing did not shatter her confidence, as she did a marvellous job in her latest appearance.
She picked up a decent lead in the early stages of the race, and retained the advantage until the finishing line, taking revenge of her trouncing at the hands of Contested.
The trainer was delighted over his charge’s magnificent effort, hoping for an even better show in the upcoming events.
“With her family, pedigree-wise, that really was a big race for her. When she broke on top, which is exactly what she did in her two races at Gulfstream, she could easily have been in front. We said, ‘If she breaks quick, take her back, and give her a target.’ Our plan was to let them go, give her a target, and stay two lengths off the lead. She was in perfect position,” he added.
On Buffum, the trainer stated that the runner is all set to start his preparations for the Grade 2, $350,000 Suburban Handicap, taking place on July 7th.
He also revealed that the connections are mulling over running, Brilliant Speed, in the Grade 1, $600,000 Man o’ War Stakes at Belmont Parknext month.
