Zoltan Gera to leave Fulham, West Ham United confirm striker, Benni McCarthy’s contract terminated
Zoltan Gera confirms Fulham exit at the end of the season
Zoltan Gera, the 31-year-old Fulham midfielder, confirmed he was close to a Craven Cottage and English Premier League exit when his existing contract expires at the end of the season. Gera has been unable to maintain his place in the first team at Fulham and has decided to move to another European side in hopes of regular football.
Gera moved to Fulham on a three year deal in the summer of 2008 from West Bromwich Albion on a free transfer. He quickly became a fan favourite in his debut season and went on to make 38 appearances and even managed to score 3 goals. His second season was even better; Gera made 50 appearances in all competitions and scored 10 goals.
Despite making an exceptional start to this season with the Cottagers, scoring a hat-trick after coming on as a substitute, he has not been regularly used. He has made 29 appearances in all competitions so far, and has managed to find the back of the net 4 times. Having been mostly used as a substitute, it comes as no surprise that he desires a move away.
Gera confirmed he would be leaving Fulham at the end of the campaign, he said while speaking to reporters, “I'm looking forward to the end of the season so that I can sign for another club. I'm 31 years old, but I don't feel like I'm 31. Plus I think that my best years are yet to come. I've never in such good shape as I am now.”
The Hungarian international revealed he was ready for a fresh challenge and was prepared to move to another country. He continued, “I could always join a better team and I hope I can make another step forward again. I'd like to move to another country. I'd like to play football in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904. I have the desire to have a new challenge.”
Benni McCarthy parts ways with West Ham United
An official statement from West Ham United confirmed that 33-year-old striker Benni McCarthy has parted ways with the club after his contract was terminated by mutual consent. The former South African international has not been able to make an impact on the Hammers ever since he arrived at Upton Park.
McCarthy joined West Ham in the January transfer window of 2010 for an undisclosed fee from Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385. In his two seasons with the club he has made a total of 13 appearances in all competitions, failing to score even once.
An official statement released by the club stated, “West Ham United have mutually agreed with Benni McCarthy to part company with immediate effect. The club would like to wish Benni the best for the future.”
