I'm growing zucchini on a container for the first time and they grew beautifully, with many flowers but no vegetables. They are at a full size with a show of flowers that died and nothing came out of it. Do i have a male plant or wha happened? Thank you

  1. This sounds like a pollination problem to me!  If the plant is not in a regular garden area there is nothing else to attract bees close and they might not have found those flowers on their own.  The male flowers are the bigger showier ones on simple thin stems, the female flowers are on the stronger stems and have a small immature fruit behind the flower.  You can self pollinate these by taking a q-tip and dipping it in the male flower and then the female flower.

    Good Luck!

  2. Zucchini produces both male and female flowers.  The female ones have what looks like a baby zucchini behind the flower.  Sometimes you will get a bunch of male flowers first.  If you do have both female and male flowers open at the same time and nothing is happening...you have a pollination issue and need to hand pollinate.

  3. Zucchini have both male and female flowers on the plants. I have seen many times when the plant first starts to flower, that male flowers are the only ones there.  What are you fertilizing with?  I use an organic fertizer for vegetables.  What you might want to do is try one that is for flowering plants. it should stimulate flower production.( its what I do when I want for flower production on my vegetables)

Look really close at your plant. You most likely will see tiny immature fruit with immature blossom buds at the end. mine are actually at this stage now.  In a few more days, they should be blossoming. You can always tell which is a female blossom and which is male because the females have the immature fruit there before they even bloom.

    Good luck
