Zulaqarnain Haider still does not repent his decision – Cricket Cricket News
he controversial Pakistani wicketkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket is back on track due to his much criticised move of abandoning the national team mid-tour last year.
The wicketkeeper from Lahore, abandoned the national side in Dubai, hours before an ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, claiming to have recieved death-threats from bookmakers, forcing him to flee to London.
However, many analysts find no credibility in his statements, as Zulqarnain was never a match-winner for Pakistan, and the bookies would not contact a player who does not have the ability to change the course of a match.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zulqarnain-c98682 recently made a comeback in the domestic circuit of Pakistan, playing for Zarai Tariqiati Bank in the current season.
While speaking to Pakpassion, Zulqarnain said he was satisfied with the decision he took. The wicketkeeper also added that he lost his father earlier this year, and due to poor fitness it was difficult for him to resume cricket.
“Initially, I felt a little awkward after being away from the game for so long and also as I was recovering from the pain of losing my father, but the lads have helped me settle in well. In addition, my physical fitness was an issue,” he said.
The wicketkeeper repeated again that he helped Pakistan cricket improve by taking the bold step of walking away.
“I still stand by my decision to leave the team in UAE - this was done for the betterment of Pakistani cricket. After my actions and other things that have happened in terms of accusations and punishments for spot-fixing etc, Pakistan has won 28 out of 30
games,” he added.
Despite Zulqarnain standing by his decision, his views are not shared by most people in the country, who feel that the wicketkeeper not only abandoned his team but the country as well, and for this action, he should be banned from all forms of competitive
cricket.
