Zulfadli Zulkiffli advances into third round at Yonex Canada Open 2013 – Badminton news
Malaysia’s talented player, Zulfadli Zulkiffli, finally got a good flow and advanced into Men’s Singles third round after defeating his local opponent, Joshua Liu, in second round of Yonex Canada Open 2013 in Richmond, on Thursday, July 18.
The impressive Zulfadli, who is the 9th seed in Men’s Singles main draw in Canada Open, did not show any sign of confusion in this second round contest and easily sent Joshua packing in just 28 minutes.
Zulfadli, who worked really hard in the opening round battle, was at ease while playing against Joshua and he remained successful in beating him in straight games with a dominating 21-12 and 21-17 score on the board.
Meanwhile, the un-seeded Joshua played good badminton especially in the second set but it was not enough to pose any threat to the in-form Malaysian shuttler. He crashed out in straight games with a reasonable total.
In the starting games, Zulfadli did not repeat the mistakes he made in his previous match. He was calm in the arena but was quick in taking the bird in a timely fashion. He controlled the pace from the starting points and took an early lead.
Malaysian man was in command as he dictated the pace while taking shots quite early and managed a wonderful lead until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, the higher ranked Zulfadli continued showing up his tremendous play without losing his focus at any stage. He did not allow Joshua to catch up the deficit in the second half and managed to stay on driving seat.
Joshua could not catch up the pace of rallies and also failed to stop the progress of Zulfadli who ended up the first game with a superb 21-12 score on the board.
In the following set, Joshua cheered his home fans by playing better badminton. He employed his attacking skills and remained successful in staying close to Zulfadli until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the Malaysian took over the control by increasing the pace of rallies. He became more aggressive in the ending points and won the second set with a reasonable margin of 21-17.
