Malaysia’s Zulfadli Zulkiffli and Lee Teng Hau have advanced in the National Junior Circuit GP Finals by beating their opponents, on Thursday, May 19.
Zulkiffli took 25 minutes to chuck out Ai Wei Jian in a straight-game match, whereas, Lee Teng tool 27 minutes to beat Muhammad Farid, in straight sets.
Zulkiffli, who is one of the major contenders in the championship, had to struggle in the opening set of the match where Ai Wei put up strong resistance by playing good badminton. In the opening set of the match, Zulkiffli played some unnecessary shots which
helped his opponent to get control of the game. However, he managed to level the score at 10-10, after which Ai Wei managed to take an 11-10 lead.
After the interval, Zulkiffli played his usual game and got the lead by reaching at 17-15. He delivered an impressive performance by employing high-jump smashes on the side-lines of the opponent’s court. He clinched the first set in 15 minutes by a 21-17
score, on the board.
In the second game, Zulkiffli proved that he belongs to the superior class of the game by putting up a flawless performance. He finished the second game by a one-sided difference of 21-8, in just 10 minutes. The ending result of this 25-minute battle was
21-17 and 21-8.
In the other match of Boy’s Singles Under-18 category, Lee Teng proved his worth against Farid, who played a decent game in the start, but eventually went down as the match progressed. He made many errors in the second part of the game, which helped his
opponent occupy the driving seat. Lee Teng managed to win the set by a reasonable difference of 21-17, in 16 minutes.
Lee Teng delivered a more convincing performance in the second game, where he left no room for his opponent to score points. He remained ahead of Farid in the whole set and won it by a 21-12 margin, in only 11 minutes. The 27-minute match ended-up by a difference
of 21-17 and 21-12.
