Zulfadli Zulkiffli paves path to main round of Singapore Open – Badminton news
Malaysia’s talented young campaigner Zulfadli Zulkiffli cleared the qualifying round of Li Ning Singapore Open and gave some solid reason to smile to his supporters by moving into main round on June 18, 2013.
He was up against Nan Wei of Hong Kong and this 45-minute Men’s Singles tussle ended in just two games. The Malaysian shuttler displayed unbeatable craft on court and sealed a splendid straight-set victory with 21-18 and 21-15 margin.
He laid foundation of his dominance straight away in the beginning of first set and maintained that upper hand all the way to final moments. Though, Nan Wei made every effort to tip the scale in his favour but he failed to hit the mark and bid adieu to this
event in a woeful manner.
Zulfadli, who was underrated earlier in this tournament, amazed every one with his stunning performance in the opening game. He started the beating from very first stroke and kept on playing with an authoritative approach.
His intensive attack helped him to keep the opposing shuttler grounded all the way to mid-game break. He relished full benefits of this edge in latter part of the game and won this crucial game with a decent figure on the board.
Although Nan Wei showed some spark in the final stages but he could not counterbalance the situation. He had to surrender when scoreboard flashed a decisive figure of 18-21. The following game did not bring anything for him as he failed to come out of his
rival’s influence.
On the other hand, Zulfadli showed consistency in his performance and claimed the second match point in a row. He ruled the court in the beginning and placed a respectable figure in no time.
He did not lose focus at any stage and finished first half of the set with a significant lead on points table. After the mid-game break, Zulfadli played impeccable badminton and cast out his rival in all areas of the game.
He strengthened his grip in third quarter of the set and then swept the table with an overwhelming score of 21-15. Now he will resume his campaign in the main round of Men’s Singles event.
