Zulfadli Zulkiffli slaughters Robin Gonansa at round-of-16 stage in Malaysia International Challenge
Zulfadli Zulkiffli, the World Junior Champion from Malaysia, advanced into Men’s Singles quarter-final after showing exit to Singapore’s Robin Gonansa at round-of-16 stage in Maybank Malaysia International Challenge 2012 on Thursday, November 15, in Malaysia.
The higher ranked Zulfadli, who is fourth seed in main draw in the championship, was at his best form as he played with tremendous speed and overpowered his lower ranked Singaporean challenger by taking just 33 minutes on court.
Having the support of home crowd, Malaysian shuttler played with incredible speed and sailed smoothly all the way to finish up the contest in straight games with a one-sided score on the board.
On the contrary, the 11th seeded Gonansa was shocked with the cruel treatment that he got from his young Malaysian rival. He committed many errors and eventually crashed out with a humiliating margin.
In the first game, Zulfadli showed an amazing aggression and did not consume much time in setting up a wonderful lead on score board at the early stage.
Zulfadli did not show any confusion in his shot selection as he remained in complete control of rallies. He did not show any mercy to his rival and kept him moving all over the court.
After the mid-game break, the in-for local shuttler progressed with an impressive speed on court and remained successful in winning the opening set in a striking manner with a superb 21-12 score on the board.
In the second game, the aggressive Zulfadli did not drop down the pace of rallies at any stage as he played with remarkable precision and took an amazing lead on the board until the end of first half.
After the one-minute break, the lower ranked Gonansa tried his best but failed to show aggression in the arena as his rival was on a different level.
Zulfadli did not face any considerable fight from his Singaporean rival throughout the battle and eventually took the set with a stunning 21-10 score on the board.
The impressive Zulfadli remained successful in winning this round-of-16 clash in a staggering fashion with a completely crushing margin of 21-12 and 21-10.
