Zulfadli Zulkiffli wins the Boy’s Singles crown at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2011
Top junior shuttler of Malaysia, Zulfadli Zulkiffli, won the Men’s Singles crown at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2011, on Saturday, July 9. In the final match, the second seed Malaysian defeated Verma Sameer of India, in straight games by consuming
37 minutes in the court.
Zulfadli, who has been playing tremendous badminton throughout the individual matches, has finally clinched his first title in the Asian Junior event, which is considered as the biggest tournament in Asia in the junior’s category.
The Malaysian delivered a stunning performance in the whole tournament as he did not drop even a single game in all of his matches. He was consistent in the whole event and eventually grabbed the title.
The second seed, Zulfadli started the game against the un-seeded Indian in an authoritative manner, as he spent no time in reaching at 11-7 in the opening half. Sameer geared up his speed against the Malaysian, but failed to stop the impressive run of his
opponent in the opening set of the final match.
A huge crowd turned around to support the local shuttler against the Malaysian, in what was expected go to be a tough battle. Zulfadli was finding the gaps in his rival’s court by playing a fast game, which kept the Indian under pressure in the whole set.
The second seed won the opening set by taking 17 minutes, with the score of 21-15.
In the following set, Sameer played better badminton by keeping his speed high in the opening points. However, as the game progressed, he became slow which helped the Malaysian to take a good lead by reaching at 11-8.
After the break, Sameer worked extra hard to reduce the deficit, but Zulfadli refused to slow down the pace of the game and kept his momentum going throughout the set. The Malaysian remained in control of the rallies and clinched the second game by a 21-17
margin, in 20 minutes.
Zulfadli ended up the match in two games with a 21-15 and 21-17 score on the board.
