Zulfadli Zulkifli and Nur Azriyn Ayup to meet in the final of the National Junior Circuit GP Finals
Malaysia’s junior players, Zulfadli Zulkifli and Nur Azriyn Ayup are set to meet in the Boy’s Singles Under-18 final, as both have defeated their opponents in the semi-final of the 100Plus National Junior Circuit GP Finals.
Zulfadli delivered a wonderful performance against the defending champion, Goh Giap Chin, in straight games without facing any considerable resistance, whereas Azriyn thrashed Chong Yee Han by playing an aggressive game.
In the start of the opening game, both shuttlers put up a superb show in a packed indoor arena. At the end of the opening half of the set, Zulfadli managed to take a small lead of 11-10. However, he became aggressive after the break and reached at 17-13.
Giap tried to level the match but failed to stop the winning run of the opponent and lost by a 16-21 difference.
Zulfadli played an incredible game in the second set, proving that he is one of the best shuttlers in the junior’s category. He clinched the second game by a surprising margin of 21-9.
"I have studied Giap Chin's game and played according to strategy and I am looking forward to winning the title," Zulfadli said.
He further added, "I lost focus a little bit when the match was halted as the roof started leaking but I managed I managed to regain my momentum."
In another semi-final match, Azriyn found no difficulty in beating Chong Yee in straight games. In the opening game, Azriyn played super game and remained miles ahead of the opponent in the entire set, without leaving any loop holes and finished up the set
by 21-12 margin.
In the following game, Azriyn continued his impressive run and reached 11-7 at the end of the opening half. He was playing with considerable ease and faced no difficulty in finding gaps in the opponent's court, eventually winning the set 21-12.
The final will be an enthralling contest as Azriyn and Zulfadli are playing top class badminton. Both seem to be in good shape and are sure to put up a good show in the title match.
