Zulfadli Zulkifli confident to win Boy’s Singles title in Badminton Asia Youth U-19 Championships
Talented Malaysian junior shuttler, Zulfadli Zulkifli, is confident to win the Boy’s Singles title at the Badminton Asia Youth U-19 Championships 2011, as he has penetrated into the round-of-16 after getting rid of Luong Khanth Tan of Vietnam in the third round, at Lucknow, India, on Wednesday, July 6.
Zulfadli showed no mercy to Khanth Tan in a straight-set fight which ended in just 21 minutes. It was a completely one-sided contest where the Malaysian played on the highest level of the game. In both sets of this Boy’s Singles match, the Malaysian prevailed with a margin of 21-12 and 21-10.
The young Malaysian, who delivered a disappointing performance in the mixed team event matches, has found his momentum in the individual event. He lost his singles match in the semi-final and final of the team event. However, he is playing much better badminton in the individual event as the tournament progresses.
While talking about his performance in the semi-final and final team event matches, Zulfadli said, “In the games against Indonesia and China (in the mixed team event), I had several service faults which made me lose my concentration and the matches. I tried hard to come back but it was too little too late.”
He further added, “I’m sorry to have disappointed so many people back home but I’ll try harder to improve on my next few games in the individual event.”
However, Zulfadli is doing really well in the Boy’s Singles individual event. He found no difficulty in defeating the Vietnamese in the third round to penetrate into the top-16 stage.
In the Boy’s Singles round-of-16, Zulfadli is set to play against China’s young shuttler, Xue Song, who sent packing Watanabe Dai of Japan in an entertaining rubber set match with a 21-13, 21-12 and 21-12 margin.
Playing against Song will be a severe test for Zulfadli as he sailed smoothly through to the round-of-16, without facing any tough competition in the round matches. However, the Malaysian is determined to perform well by playing to his full potential.
