Zulfadli Zulkifli confident to win the Boy’s Singles title in the 2011 World Junior Championships
Zulfadli Zulkifli, the most talented young shuttler of Malaysia is determined to win the Boy’s Singles title at the 2011 World Junior Championships, which is in progress in Chinese Taipei.
Zulkifli played a vital role in the victory of Malaysian team in the final match of the mixed team event on Sunday, October 30. Now he is confident to put up the strong show in the individual event.
For the Malaysian, it will be the last junior tournament as he will enter into the Men’s Singles category before the next edition of the World Junior Championships.
Zulkifli has been playing tremendous badminton and has also achieved wonderful results so far in the current year. He clinched the Boy’s Singles title at the National Junior Circuit and also emerged as the winner in the Asian Junior Championships, held in
Indian in July.
The chances of the Malaysian to take the title are quite strong as Chinese shuttlers have given the event a miss. The strongest opponent in the field will be the defending champion Viktor Axelsen of Denmark, who failed to deliver his best in the team event
matches.
While talking about the Danish, Zulkifli said that he is one of the major contenders for the title in the championship, though he has not yet produced good form.
Zulkifli said, “There’s no doubt that Viktor is still the strongest player in the field. But he has been far from impressive, struggling in the team matches. Maybe he is still trying to adapt to the playing conditions ... it is certainly an advantage for
me.”
He also said, “But I’m not thinking too far ahead. I would rather take it one match at a time because even though the draw is favourable, it would be silly to underestimate the other players. I’m well prepared for the individual event.”
In the draw of Zulfadli, the major contenders, before the final match, will be India’s Pratul Joshi and Japan’s Kento Momota. If the Malaysian crosses these hurdles, he is expected to face the top seed Axelsen in the final of the championship.
Zulfadli is confident to win the title as he wants to end his career in the junior category in style.
