Zulfadli Zulkifli determined to win the Boy’s Singles title: Badminton Asia Junior Championships
Malaysia’s Zulfadli Zulkifli is determined to win the Boy’s Singles title by beating India’s Verma Sameer in the final match of the 2011 Badminton Asia Junior Championships. In the semi-final fights, Zulfadli defeated Japan’s Momota Kento, whereas, Sameer
emerged as the winner against China’s Liu Kai.
Zulfadli, who is the second seed in the Boy’s Singles draw, won the semi-final battle in an impressive fashion against Momota, who made the biggest upset of the tournament by defeating the defending champion Huang Yuxiang of China, in the Boy’s Singles second
round of the event. The Malaysian took only two sets to chuck out the Japanese in just 42 minutes.
After winning the match, Zulfadli said, “I will be wary of my opponent tomorrow. I want to win this title for myself, my family and for Malaysia. So far, I am free from injury and I want to stay focused and nail this elusive title.”
The Malaysian is in tremendous form at the moment as he is playing some of the best badminton early in his career. He failed to deliver results in the last two editions of this championship, however, this time he is ready to win the title.
In the final of the event, Zulfadli is set to take on India's Verma Sameer, who delivered a remarkable performance against Liu Kai of China and clinched the match in three games.
The spirited Indian will be playing on his home turf, and will have that extra advantage of his home crowd cheering for him. This is Sameer's first showing at the final of an international event, with Badminton Asia Junior Championship being one of the most
prestigious events in the region.
Sameer displayed a stunning performance in the semi-final against Kai, who was the favourite coming into the match, at least on paper. However, Sameer ended the hopes of his Chinese opponent and advanced to meet the second seed, Zulfadli, in the title match.
Zulfadli is expected to beat the Indian as he has gained confidence by beating some of the best shuttlers in the event, however, he does not underestimate the abilities of the Indian who has ousted the first seed in the semi-final.
