Zulfadli starts training in national camp, hopes to develop his skills – Badminton news
The young Malaysian shuttler Zulfadli Zulkifli started training in national training camp of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) on March 5, 2012.
The reigning Junior Asian and World champion Zulfadli is in transition year from junior to senior category and he hoped this training session will improve his tactical and technical skills.
The 19-year-old Zulfadli represents Kuala Lumpur Racket Club (KLRC) where he trains under his father’s supervision but BAM invited him to join national training camp for Thomas Cup finals in Wuhan, China.
BAM has also included him in special squad for advance preparation of 2016 Olympics and Thomas Cup and they are giving him all the attentions as expected replacement of World Number one Lee Chong Wei at international level.
After BAM’s official request, Zulfadli started training on March 5 and he looked in high spirits to grasp the best from the veteran players and coaches.
He said, “This is actually a good opportunity for me to pick up on the training and I am confident that it will help make the transition into senior levels. Training wise it is more or less similar with my club but there are more sparring partners here which
will be the added advantage.”
Zulfadli is under supervision of the coach Hendrawan, who had a few weeks session with him last year before the Asian and World Juniors. That practice session proved out really beneficial as he became the first Malaysian to seal the crown in these prestigious
juniors’ events.
The Malaysian lad is hopeful that this opportunity will elevate his mental and physical fitness as he is scheduled to prove his class in the Swiss Open next week.
He said, “It was just the first session and the toughest periods are yet to come but I believe that I’ll be able to cope with the physical demands. Right now it will be one week of training before I head off to compete in the Swiss Open.”
Zulfadli, who currently is placed at 130th spot, has got a golden opportunity to lift up his world rankings by competing at international level.
Initially, the youngster was in back-up squad only but BAM decided to give its young shuttler proper international exposure and threw a chance to test his skills at senior level in the Swiss Open and Axiata Open.
