Pakistan runaway wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider will be holding a meeting with English club Lashings early next week to discuss his inclusion for their all-star squad.
The runaway wicketkeeper who fled Dubai and reached the UK in order to seek asylum has been keen to join county cricket to continue his shouldering cricket profession.
He ran away claiming that he has been receiving death threats after he refused to “fix” two matches in the ODI series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
Lashings chairman David Folb was clearly optimistic to confirm Haider’s presence in the team. He said that he has even spoken to Haider’s solicitor and his media people to make him “agree a contract for the 2011 season.”
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 side Lashings, whose base is a bar and a restaurant, has been playing all around the world and is known to have conducted all-star charity matches at an international level.
The Lashings World XI side is famous for providing anchorage to players who have been involved in some controversy one way or the other. The high-profile players having some “off-field” problems are always given solace in the club.
The club said on Wednesday that they are very keen to recruit the man who is clearly “seeking political asylum in Britain.”
The Lashings have also given refuge to another Pakistani, former wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rashid-Latif-c84084 who has also claimed to have resisted “pressure” from potential match-fixers to fix the matches. He has played in the South East England for Lashings and is rumoured
to have helped the Lashings chairman get in contact with Zulqarnain’s management and lawyer.
Folb added that they believed that Haider would “feel at home” with them.
Lashings have also provided haven to former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 bowler, Henry Olonga who staked his career after he protested against the “political regime” of Robert Mugabe. Olonga wore a black armband in 2003 World Cup match in order to show his involvement in the
“death of democracy” campaign in Zimbabwe. He is still playing for the club.
More Pakistani players like Mohammad Akram and Azhar Mahmmod have been a part of the village side and it also included the less-controversial international players like West Indian Richie http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richardson-c85395 and Graeme Hick of England. Legend stars such as India’s
Sachin Tendulkar and Sri Lanka’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Muttiah-Muralitharan-c78157 have also been giving their backing to the club.
The all star teams famously tour the world and holds exhibition matches in order to create awareness for the sport.
