Zulqarnain Haider returning to Pakistan: Cricket News
Zulqarnain Haider, the former wicket-keeper for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 is set to return to his home country, after fears for his security were allayed by the Pakistani government. Zulqarnain fled to
England to seek asylum after claiming he had received threats directed towards him and his family during his side’s series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in Dubai.
The former wicket-keeper has now abandoned his plans after he received guarantees on his, as well as his family’s, safety by high-ups in the Pakistani government.
Zulqarnain said, "I received assurances from interior minister Rehman Malik and also from the Pakistan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Wajid Shamsul http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990, regarding my safety
on my return to Pakistan."
The assurances were enough for the player who promptly cancelled his application for seeking asylum and now looks set to return to Pakistan along with his family.
In addition Rehman Malik, Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister, also assured the player that he would be reinstated as an employee of Zarai Taraqiati Bank.
Changes needed
Zulqarnain Haider also stated the need for changes in the set-up of cricket in Pakistan as well as in other countries. The wicket-keeper said, "Pakistan cricket and indeed world cricket
needs to change for the better. You don't get the help and support from within cricketing circles that one would expect and that is why a lot of cricketers are turning a blind eye to corruption in cricket.”
He went on to discuss how he would help the authorities out in reducing match-fixing in the game through his own personal experience, which had forced him to seek asylum in England in
the first place.
The player went on to explain why not many players come forward and report the incidents of match-fixing in the modern game.
Future
There is already speculation concerning how Haider will continue his cricketing career as his retirement from the international stage still remains unchanged, though the former Pakistani
player is still available for first class cricket.
Lashings Cricket Club seem to be the front-runners in getting Haider’s signature as they look to wrap-up a deal to bring the Pakistani player to play for them in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802.
The county team were interested in adding Haider to their ranks before the player’s asylum saga began, and seem to have renewed their interest in him.
If Haider is to agree a deal with the County side he will be in the company of respected players such as former Pakistan spin bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Gough-c52450. The only thing that
seems to be standing in both parties’ way is the official documentation that will bring an end to all the speculation.
As for returning to the international arena, Zulqarnain has to appear before the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a hearing for that matter to be duly sorted.
