Zulqarnain Haider returns to Pakistan
Exiled wicket-keeper, http://www.senore.com/Zulqarnain-Haider-t73198p1, returned to Pakistan from London after assurances from Interior Minister Rehman Malik about his and his family’s safety.
On reaching Islamabad airport, the wicket-keeper received a warm-welcome from his family. According to media reports, Haider received official security, as a police van was present for his protection.
"I spoke to Zulqarnain on telephone and reassured him and his family will be perfectly safe in Pakistan", Malik told reporters.
Earlier, Rehman Malik assured that Haider will not only be provided security, his job in Zarai Taraqiati Bank, will also be reinstated. The reports have also revealed that the former wicket-keeper is expected to meet Rehman Malik.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) dismissed his contract and formed a committee, who will investigate the facts behind his sudden departure. Haider said that he is ready to face all the questions of PCB, as well as International Cricket Council (ICC).
The wicket-keeper, who spent almost six months in UK, revealed that he received death threats from an Indian. He also complained about Umar Akmal, saying that his behaviour with him was also not fair during the one-day series.
Haider added that Kamran Akmal’s father-in-law was involved in gambling. He also suggested authorities to probe the matter.
Two weeks ago, when Haider decided to return home, he again received death threats, after which it was expected that the wicket-keeper may overturn his decision of coming back to Pakistan.
Citing death threats from bookies, Zulqarnain had left for London last year in November, during the One Day International (ODI) series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in Dubai.
Leaving his family in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, the runaway wicket-keeper sought asylum in London and announced retirement from International cricket. Living there, he was offered to play county cricket by Lashing chairman, David Flob.
Haider, who recently turned 25, has played one Test match and in the second innings he scored 88 splendid runs. His abrupt ODI career includes four matches, where he scored a total of 48 runs.
