Zulqarnain Haider stumped by his financial woes
Pakistani wicket-keeper Zulqarnain Haider, who fled to England last year, has stated that he has run out of money in the United Kingdom (UK). The player has asked for asylum in UK and is awaiting his fate.
The wicketkeeper has claimed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) haven't yet cleared his dues and he has been under a lot of depression due to that. The amount that Zulqarnain claims is due to be paid to him is around 15000 pounds.
Even though Zulqarnain has seen a very tough time in the past few months, he said that he was excited to see his wife and two daughters who will be joining him in UK. He said, “I hope in one or two weeks they will be sitting with me in London or Birmingham.
When my family come I'll feel more able to do things.”
PCB was stunned after Zulqarnain had left the team hours before the start of the final One Day International (ODI) in UAE. The team was scheduled to play a test series against the Proteas and Zulqarnain was a part of that team.
After fleeing to England from Dubai, Zulqarnain claimed that he was given life threats and he had to save his life. He also stated that his family had been receiving threats during this time period.
Zulqarnain further added, “I am worried about my family's security in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 at the moment. Once they reach here (London), I will definitely unearth the corruption in Pakistan cricket.”
Pakistan had been struck with a number of controversies last year and the biggest of all was the spot-fixing allegations on the team’s English tour. Three of the top cricketers from Pakistan Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif were suspended by
the International Cricket Council (ICC) as a result of these allegations.
Zulqarnain debuted in the English series and scored a fighting 88-run knock on his debut match. He was out for a duck in the first innings but scored his maiden half century in the second innings.
The troubled player said that he was considering playing in England and he had some good offers. He stated, “"I want to pay tax and play normally here. I've applied for asylum and it all depends now on the Home Office.”
