Zulqarnain Haider wants the assets of players to be examined by the Income Tax department
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s runaway wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider has asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to keep a check on the assets of the national cricketers.
He believes that examining the properties and assets of cricketers will help a great deal in reducing corruption from the game.
Zulqarnain came into limelight last year when he decided to run away from Dubai and flew to London on the morning of Pakistan’s last One Day International against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
Later on the wicketkeeper claimed that he had received death threats from bookmakers to underperform against the Proteas.
The controversial cricketer said that the assets of the cricketers should be checked on a regular basis and the income tax department of the country can play a vital role in it.
He said, “Assets of the cricketers [in Pakistan] should be examined every year and the income tax department can play a vital role in this regard.”
Haider came back to Pakistan earlier this week and reached his native city Lahore yesterday. While talking to the media, Haider claimed that he has put his future on stake just to remove match-fixing from the game.
Another controversial development came to surface yesterday when former Sri Lankan captain, Hashan Tillakaratne claimed that match-fixing is present in cricket since 1992 and it is wide spread like a cancer.
Former Sri Lankan captain’s allegations seem to have strengthened Haider’s claims as well.
The lanky wicketkeeper also talked about the poverty in Pakistan and said that there are many people in the country who do not have proper food to eat and on the other side of the coin there are some players who have amassed a great deal of wealth.
Zulqarnain urged the people of Pakistan to fight against corruption in sports.
“In Pakistan where many people are struggling for two-time daily meals many cricketers own 15 houses. The whole nation should think about this to end the difference [of living standard] between the people,” Zulqarnain added.
The recent developments in the world of cricket call for the International Cricket Council to take necessary steps to ensure that cricket remains a “gentlemen’s game”.
