Pakistan’s former wicketkeeper, Zulqarnain Haider, who reached home last Monday, wants to restart his cricket career with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 national team.
“I may be losing valuable time by not playing cricket but I will stage a comeback”, said the former wicket-keeper.
Haider merely had an experience of playing one Test and four One-Day International matches before his sudden departure to UK from Dubai, during the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
The 25 year-old later revealed that he received death threats from the bookies for not helping in match-fixing. The player sought asylum in London for almost six months, leaving his family in Pakistan, and announced his retirement from international cricket.
The right-handed batsman added that he put in a great struggle for cementing his place in the national squad but his cricket career has been spoiled by the crisis he faced in the early days of his career.
The runaway wicket-keeper also said that in the beginning of his cricket career, he lost his mother but still continued because of his love for the sport. “You can understand what this sport means to me so imagine why I decided to go to London while in the
national team”, he said.
Haider also added that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and International Cricket Council (ICC) are investigating the matter that subdued his cricket career and that the people involved in cricket corruption would be traced soon.
Haider decided to return home and withdrew his asylum in London after Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Rehman Malik, gave assurance of his and his family’s security.
Malik also assured that he will restore Haider’s job in the Zarai Taraqiati Bank after he reaches Pakistan.
The wicketkeeper-batsman showed his happiness over the security provided to him after reaching Pakistan. He was kept in some secret area in Islamabad for security reasons and the player then met his family after reaching his hometown, Lahore, on Friday.
The player appreciated the efforts by Pakistani police in arresting the group of eight bookies from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sialkot-c842, involved in threatening him.
Haider said that he still does not understand the reason for being targeted by the bookies. He added that the steps he has taken against corruption are as important as playing for Pakistan.
