Zulqarnain Haider’s family: We are Receiving Threatening Calls
On Monday, the family of Pakistan’s former wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider revealed that they were receiving threatening calls from unknown people. The family had contacted the local police and asked for protection.
These events took place after Haider claimed that within five days he would be giving out the names of the people who have been related to match fixing in Pakistan.
Aqeel Haider, the brother of Zulqarnain, told the media that they were unable to trace the numbers of the calls except for one that came from Greece.
"Zulqarnain's wife got three calls today, two from an unknown number and one from a number in Greece, in which the caller, speaking in Urdu, threatened her of dire consequences if Zulqarnain said anything about anyone," said Aqeel.
The family started getting such calls right after Haider had updated his status on a social networking website saying that, "All these people who are saying negative things about me, they should wait for five more days, then I
will show them my background and status, after five days I will show them their background and place, and also those who don't take money and those who have taken money."
It would be wise of Haider to blow the whistle on the match-fixing culprits as soon as possible, instead of giving them a five-day ultimatum. Perhaps, Haider is only trying to intimidate the bookies; if this is the case then he
is putting the lives of his family at stake. The skinny wicketkeeper should quit playing games and handover any evidence that he has to the police or the International Cricket Council.
The timing of Zulqarnain’s status update and the threats is very odd because Pakistan Cricket Board’s fact-finding committee has also submitted its report about the events related to Zulqarnain’s disappearance from the United Arab
Emirates, to the Pakistan Cricket Board on the same day.
The plot is thickening as the time is passing by. It seems like the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard and Rehman Malik (Pakistani interior Minister) to solve this riddle.
Zulqarnain’s story is turning out to be a perfect script of a Hollywood thriller, which has managed to keep the audience gripped so far, wanting to know what will happen next.
The whole situation unfolded nearly a month ago when the Pakistan Cricket team was touring the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. Haider was picked for the national squad in place of Kamran Akmal for this
tour.
The 24-year-old wicketkeeper, helped the team in levelling the series in the fourth ODI, but then disappeared shortly before the start of the fifth and final match of the ODI series.
The team management was taken by surprise and no one had any clues about the whereabouts of Haider. The team management had no option left but to contact the police in the UAE. Later, the management was told that Zulqarnain was
on his way to England. On reaching England, Haider made some very startling revelations. According to the man himself, he was being threatened by someone to lose the fifth ODI; otherwise, he and his family would have to face severe consequences. These threats
frightened the youngster and he deserted his team by flying to England. Haider also claimed that he would no longer be playing cricket and wanted to live in peace away from all the controversies.
