Zupjack zips to first in Magners Sprint Final
Yarmouth was the scene of two finals Wednesday night, the £1000 Magners Sprint Final over the 277m and the £1200 Derby Purse Final over 659m.
Magners Sprint Final
Zupjack was quickest from the traps in the Sprint Final, taking the early lead on Droopys Hector, and finishing with a time of 16.51 seconds. Hector started off well, but stayed wide coming from the sixth
trap and couldn’t get ahead of Zupjack.
Taking third place ahead of 10-11 race favourite, All Lit Up, was Winetavern Rocky. Both looked slow in the early going, and lost ground on the leaders on the first bend. Rocky ended up three lengths behind
Hector, and 1 ½ lengths ahead of All Lit Up.
Taking fifth was Broadway Cannon, another 4 ½ lengths behind All Lit Up, and behind him in last by another four lengths was Bullet Drive.
Derby Purse Final

The Derby Purse Final saw Bodell Clare take the early lead, and maintain it to the finish line, something that is not easily done in a race that’s 659 metres long. After a quick start, Clare moved from
the inside to the middle while second place finisher, and 13-8 race favourite, Kinda Easy, pushed out wide from the fifth trap. Clare finished with a time of 40.56 seconds, and Easy with 40.80.
The Pied Piper didn’t have as many dogs behind him as he would have liked, taking third place, two lengths back of Easy, and right behind him was Knockies Hannah in fourth.
Skyscrape Star moved out very wide after starting from the sixth trap, and could only manage a fifth place finish. Smooth Ace, a 14-1 longshot, finished in last place.
Phil Haworth 50th Birthday Stakes
The last race of the day at Yarmouth was the £94 Phil Haworth 50th Birthday Stakes over 462m. This race saw two hounds drop out. Paradise Riva was taken out and not replaced while Tasmanian
Sky filled in for Trinity Benson in the third trap.
The Birthday Stakes was won by Annie Laurie who got off to a slow start, but kept inside and managed to take the lead in the late stages of the race, finishing three lengths ahead of Kingy Bear. Bear started
in the sixth trap, and stayed a bit wide, but was able to hang on for second place as both Laurie and Bear passed Zoes Smile, who had taken the early lead.
Rackethall Bolt, the 5-4 race favourite, didn’t finish the race after easing up on the second bend. That left replacement, Tasmanian Sky, a 20-1 longshot, in fourth place, which in this race was also last
place.
