Zurich Classic of New Orleans set to shine with big names on the tour – Golf News
The field of Zurich Classic of New Orleans is ready to showcase some of the big names of the game of golf this year, from April 26 to 29, 2012.
The defending champion, Bubba Watson, has recently confirmed his participation in the event after registering a win at the Masters Tournament.
“It’s always a pleasure to come here, especially with a sponsor like Zurich,” Watson said. “When Zurich gets behind it and starts driving it, the tournament gets better and better. The field last year was one of the best ever. The fields are getting better
and better here”.
He is currently the hottest star in the event because of his first appearance in any of the events since his playoff victory against Louis Oosthuizen at Augusta.
He took a couple of weeks off in order to take some rest and spend some time with his friends and family.
Luke Donald, a player who has been making the headlines for the last one year because of his consistent game on the course, is also set to make an appearance in the tournament.
Donald won the money list titles on both the PGA and the European Tours last year, making him the first player in the history to reach that mark.
Moreover, he has also been battling with Rory McIlroy throughout the year for the top position in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Therefore, his participation in the event will definitely make the event more interesting and a must watch for the spectators coming to the course.
Other top-ranked players, who have confirmed their appearance, include Steve Stricker (No. 7) and Justin Rose (No. 10).
Both of these players are currently enjoying their forms, and put up a great display of their game whenever they enter the course.
Excluding Watson, there are a total of 12 major winners and eight past Zurich Classic winners who have reached the venue to start practicing before the tournament starts on Thursday.
Overall, there will be 156 players who will contend for the $6.4 million purse. However, four of them are yet to be decided through the qualifying round at LaTour, in Mathews.
