Zuzana Kucova crushes Scarlett Werner in the second round qualifiers of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix
Eighth seed Zuzana Kucova of Slovakia blew away the German wildcard, Scarlett Werner in the second round of the qualifying draws of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, played at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany on Sunday. The
dominant Slovakian took just 76 minutes before she closed out her straight sets victory at 6-3, 6-1, to dispense the German out from the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) tournament.
The contest took off with the two women attacking the opponent with their aggressive moves and hard hitting tennis. Werner lost her steam shortly after her decent start and kept crumbling to face a humiliating defeat at the hands
of the Slovak opponent. She appeared in no sorts of form in the second set and bestowed it to Kucova in just 35 minutes of play.
Although there were something lacking in the Slovak’s game, her overall performance in the contest was quite satisfying. Her first serve precision in the game was 71, while Werner delivered 81 per cent on her serve on target but
failed to collect crucial points in the matchup. Kucova crafted 13 break chances in the contest and availed seven of them en route to victory, while dropping her serve three out of nine times.
The opener ignited with some intense tennis play from the two contestants. The German fired 81 per cent of her first serve on target but could nab just 40 per cent points on it in the first set. She was the first one to break serve
in the contest, which was in the second game, but Kucova retaliated with the same in the very next game to break even. After a further exchange of one break point each, the competitors took the scores to 3-3.
A crucial momentum swing took place in the seventh game and a sudden slump in Werner’s game was observed. A couple of errant strokes from the German allowed the third break point of the set to Kucova, who then held her serve to
reach 5-3 in the opener. A fourth serve break from the Slovak’s racquet marked an end to the first set at 6-3.
Kucova had her momentum going from the opening set and simply outclassed her opponent in the next set to register a win. She stung three break points before she sealed the second set at 6-1 and moved one step closer to the main
draws of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. Up next for Kucova is the other Austrian, the third seed Tamira Paszek, who defeated Lenka Jurikova of Slovakia in the second round at Stuttgart.
