i have just bought a zx6r 2000 j1, the bike rides fine in 1st and 2nd gear but when it goes over 3000 revs it loses power and stutters? cant really take it over 30mph. I spoke to a garage over the phone and he told me that it is definately a gearbox problem?? is that right or is he trying to rip me off?????

  1. OK, first of all, if it looses power and stutters it has NOTHING to do with the gear box. Either they are idiots or you explained the problem really poorly.

We can all guess a number of possible causes to this problem, but reality is that you need to bring the bike in to a shop to check it out. Find a Kawasaki shop that seems to have its act together and bite the bullet.

  2. Sounds wrong to me more likely to be electronics or fuel. I can't see it being gearbox if its ok in 1st and 2nd. A  faulty ecu will stop the engine running right at higher revs as you change gears. But this only advice you really need to get it checked at a main Kawa dealer.

  3. Did you perform a used bike maintenance?

When buying a used bike one should always do the following:

    Oil & Filter Change

    Coolant Flush

    Check Tire Pressure

    Brake Pad Inspection

Clean / Replace The Air Filter

    Clean / Replace Plugs

One full tank of premium gas (drain / burn off old gas first)

Check battery voltage & clean terminals

These are all "do it yourself" tasks and help get you familiar with your new bike. This is biker intimacy where you build your relationship with your bike. Do these things and see if your problem doesn't go away. You trying to go all fast and you just met. get to know her first! LOL Nah really though, run through that check list and see what happens.
