Question:

Zyxel router problem?

Got Virgin Media broadband via cable connection, and a ZyXEL NBG334W wireless router in this house.

2 wireless laptops, 1 ethernet connected PC (all on Vista, no problem until now) and an Xbox 360 (ethernet) all run off the same connection, never a problem until today.

If I plug anything direct into the modem, the connection is fine and runs. Go through the router and nothing can get online. Resetting the router and modem by powering off and leaving it doesn't work. No router settings have changed, and I can't see which setting to change in the router menu (if I should change any).

We were with AOL cable over Virgin Media, and needed PPPoE setting up which was fine for around 6 months, and when the service changed to Virgin Media cable connection totally, it needed changing to Ethernet. I followed the FAQ guide on the website and it has been fine for the past 3 or so weeks, until today. It just seems like the router can't communicate with the modem.

  1. Maybe the modem isn't communicating with the ISP.  Try powering off everything and power up in the order of modem, router, pc.

Give the modem at least a minute head start over the router.

PS - Zyxel routers are c**p - I just replaced mine with a Linksys.
