So far I've only dealt with having to put a single undefined symbol within a root sign (i.e. x^2/3 = 4 becomes ^3-root-x^2 =4), but this one has me stumped.

Yahoo answers is better than any tutor I could hope for.

  1. (a + 2)^3/4 = 8

    a + 2 = 8^4/3 = (2*2*2)^4/3 = 2^4 = 16

    a = 14
