? about Keets!?

I have had this keet for over 5 yrs. and in the last 6 months he has started this screeching that is nerve racking and I can't take it much more. I have tried everything I know to get him to stop. I do have a female in same cage and she will fight with him every time he starts as if to try to shut him up. It's not water, food, clean cage, etc. that he could be wanting. I cover him up to make him stop but I feel like it's unfair to the female to be punished also. I don't have the space to have 2 cages. I don't think the problem is that he's wanting to breed either because when he's screaming he's just sitting there on the perch. So my question is HOW DO I STOP THIS???? It's come to the point of either losing my last nerve with him or getting rid of him. This sound he makes goes straight to the bone and it's an all day thing unless he's covered up but it's not good for them to be in the dark alot. Please help!

  1. there could be a couple reasons for this

1 he is bored out of his mind and is telling everyone about it

2 he wants to mate really bad

3 he sees somthing or hears somthing he doesnt like

4 he likes the attention u give him when he screams

goodluck!  check out http://www.parrotcentral.net/parakeets.h... for good parakeet info

  2. It could be a cry for attention. My keets holler when they want me in the room.

  3. i have a parakeet too...and sometimes when  am reading a book or something he will just start screeching for no good reason...so i talk to him and he is happy...all he wanted was some attention. if that is not the case with yours here is another suggesion...does he have any toys...maybe he is bored with the ones he has....try getting new ones maybe.or maybe it is the female he doesnt like...if it is possible you could try to put a divider in the cage...like you know with card board or something.i also know that parakeets like noise...maybe if you play the radio when you arent home then he can get his screeching out when you arent home. i hope my ideas help...i hope you dont have to get rid of him.

  4. I have a 2 or 3 year old pair and my male screeches too. It is usually accompanied by making his pupils much smaller and finding something to bob his beak up and down on. He's actually doing a mating ritual. It happens quite often, but its nothing to worry about. I keep my birds on my back step outside with a towel over their cage. Sometimes its the enviornment that makes your birds scared and they screech, but if its just your male than he's just trying to get a mate. Your female is reprimanding him because she approve of him and doesn't want to mate with him.

  5. You have two birds and they are fighting and screeching.  Maybe get another cage and put them in separate cages or in separate rooms.  I had to give my parakeet away to a free home because I could not take the screeching anymore.  He is happy there.
