We are taking our first flight next week and I herd that you can bring a carry-on plus a purse or laptop. I'm wondering if my kids can bring there backpacks plus a carry-on or would that count as 2 carry-ons?

  1. The kids backpack is each considered a carry on. They can bring a purse also with them, but just 1 backpack each. Just to  let you know, I often see people with 2 carry-on's, but they get a lot of nasty looks. I think the Airlines will soon enforce the 1 carry-on rule.

  2. Time Traveler is correct.  Each backpack is a carry on, and a hand bag each is fine.  A handbag can also be a laptop bag, for example.

You'll be flying in a Boeing 737 most likely.  All of Alaska's MD-80's will be retires within a month.

  3. Adults can carry up to 5kg of personal ice each, and the children 2kg.  Unfortunately you pet polar bear will have to ride in the cargo bay  ;)

  4. there's no leg room on those planes
