i just got the mirena IUD inserted on July 30th. i was on my period, having my normal flow. the next day it was light, and i spotted red and pink blood until Aug 10th. and on the 18th only.

i havent had any bleeding sincethen, and i usually start around the last week of the month.

i know that my cycle will change because of the mirena, but i was wondering howlong did it take for your body to get used to the IUD and did you have your period every month after it was inserted? any details and experiences would be much appreciated!

oh, and i know im not pregnant. . . if it crosses anyones mind.

  1. I have the ParaGuard (copper non-hormone IUD).  I spotted for about 2 weeks, then had my period (very heavy) about a week late.  I would say it took me about four months for things to be normal, although my doctor warned that it could be 6 months.  As it is, my cramps are slightly worse than before, my periods are slightly heavier than before, but beyond that, I'm VERY happy I had it inserted.  I can't tolerate hormonal birth control.  Plus, the ParaGuard is good for 10 years, not 5.  Hooray!  Also, after removal, I can get pregnant immediately, without having to wait for hormones to be out of my system.

  2. it was so horrid I bled all the time with no breaks and i asked for it to be taken out after 5 weeks as i felt so miserable. they say it settles down plus you can be on the pill alongside it or take hormones to stop the bleeding, my dr suggested both but i felt  id had enough, and I felt only relief when it was removed, coward but true....hope you are ok! maybe some other women think its marvellous but it didnt suit me.

  3. I am going to be getting a mirena IUD in here soon. My doctor said that it is okay to not have a period. You do need to know your body. Take a test and see or go see your doctor. They are there to help you.
