"I must win," says Mark Webber
Mark Webber believes that he will have to win at least one of the final four races left in the 2010 season in order to win the drivers’ championship. The Aussie leads the championship with 202 points just 11 points ahead of Fernando Alonso in 2nd
place. His third place finish at the Singapore grand prix saved him from losing his lead in order to keep the pressure on McLaren and Ferrari. Mark Webber seems worried as McLaren and Ferrari are improving day by day and Red Bull has not been able to dominate
by their power since a long time now. The team has scored some “lucky” points as stated by many as Lewis retired in the past two races consecutively enabling Red Bull to take the advantage.
“I still need to win races. Podiums are beautiful to get, of course. They are important. [But] whether there's going to be reliability to still play a part in this championship, I still need to win some races”, he told the BBC.
This was the toughest weekend for the Aussie as he stated in the post-race press conference as well and he believes that he can give a much better performance in the coming four races. Mark believes that he must finish these four races but he was satisfied
with his performance at the Singapore Grand Prix as he started from fifth on the grid to finish in third place on the podium.
However, it seems that Red Bull is having issues as the Aussie seemed worried since Red Bull is on its final engine as well and the team has been struggling to perform in the past couple of races. Red Bull has not made any major updates since over a month
while their rivals McLaren and Ferrari are constantly improving their car and this is going to give McLaren and Ferrari a confident boost. This can be labeled as a “strategic” statement as it seemed quite suspicious.
Webber seemed tired and frustrated for some reason as he stated that the season has been too long and Formula 1 drivers do not have a choice of choosing whether they want to perform in a particular event or not. They just have to perform in every race from
February to November week-in, week-out.
“We're flying around the world. This is all part of it. Maximum concentration and focus from all the team and all the individuals involved”, he added.
Red Bull might not be happy with this statement as it shows that Mark Webber is verging towards frustration more rather than enthusiasm as the season draws nearer to its end.
