  1. The United States Military is entirely voluntary right now.  The only thing that would change is if a draft happened, which honestly, it could but that is why we have actuve duty, and the reserves first.  So, no, nobody will force your son to go.  But if he wants to, he may.  When they turn 18 i think they are required to turn in some card to the federal government that is somewhat like a draft card that they will just have on file.  That;s the law for all boys to turn that card in i think.
