the second pic states 200 and the first one states 100, I do not think it is possible to extend a variable in that way for a variable length data item, try pic x(200) then redefine with pic x(100) and a second pic x(100) and use one of them for the shorter data and initialise the other with spaces or zeros as appropriate, or use two different pic at the 02 level
