I currently live in the US and ive been living here for 11 years. I will be a junior starting in august and ill graduate 2 years from now. After senior year, im moving to Japan to go to a college there. My family is japanese and im from japan. I speak it, write it understand it and have private tutors, yet im still very scared.

I actualyl wanted to go to a college here in the US, but my parents say that it will be way more beneficial for me to go to a college in japan since ill live there so thats that and i cant change it.

Im aiming for places such as Keio University, Kyoto University, Waseda University, Hitotsubashi University, and etc. maybe hiroshima university since im originally frm hiroshima. i'll major in business

Ive heard that the curriculum is very different from america, and im kinda scared. Even though I speak japanese, im better at english academically. how is it over there? and i want to go somewhere where its good, but not too...boring? haha

  1. You can learn all about studying abroad in Japan and what to expect here:

  2. The Japanese college curriculums in most private universities (even elite ones such as Keio and Waseda) are in fact pretty lax. Only at National Universities (kokuritsu-dai 国立大) will you find challenging courses. Of course for commerce Hitotsubashi 一橋 is the best, but Keio 慶應 and Waseda 早稲田 aren't exactly bad either.

If you're really concerned about the language part, try AO admissions for Waseda's School of International Liberal Studies (SILS) or in Japanese the 国際教養学部. You may present your SAT I grade for consideration. I am not sure if you want to consider 帰国子女 admissions, or as a foreigner (but I presume you do not have American citizenship). If you're going by the 帰国子女 route, I am not certain of the exact procedures but a special screening will probably be in place. Check the details at www.waseda.jp/sils. From what I gather Waseda's the best place to be as a kikokushijo, and the SILS department's quickly gaining a reputation. Plus, most courses are in English. What more can you ask for?

I might even see you there in three years' time. 頑張れ!

    Hope this helps.
