Hi, i'm wondering if someone could tell me how to answer this question

1. Calculate the value of (delta)Ssys for the following reaction, using the information on the table below.

Substance-----------------------So(J/m... K)

Fe(s)---------------------------------...

Fe(OH)3 -----------------------------107

O2(g)--------------------------------- 205

H2O(l) --------------------------------70

note all the numbers are positive, dashes are just meant to separate the numbers.

any help would be grateful. And please show your work!

  1. 2Fe(s)+ 3/2O2(g) + 3H2O   -> 2Fe(OH)3(s)

    dS = prod - reactants

    dS = [(2) (107)] - [(2)(27) & (3/2)(205)  &  (3) (70)]

    dS = [214]     - [54 & 307.5 &  210 ]

    dS = [214]     - [571.5 ]

    dS = - 357.5 Joules

    but yoiu might want to round your answer off to: dS = - 376 Joules

  2. I see no reaction given.

  3. i am guess there should be a reaction here... and if this is the topic of hess law, then.. the sum of all the heat either evolved or liberated = the total heat evolved or liberated at the end of the reaction...

    delta h = h1 +h2 +h3+h4

    i.e.. 27 + 107 +205 +70 = +409 KJ

  4. It can't be solved if a reaction is not given.
