I have an automactic ice maker in my freezer and my nephew connected the water line to the cold water tubing under the kitchen sink. I thought you are suppose to connect the water line to the cold water pipe! Neither of us are plumbers but since he connected it to the cold water tubing there is a small drip and the ice isn't producing like it should. Can someone please help me? Thanks!!

  1. connecting to cold supply is a good thing. you don't want to connect to hot supply- defeating purpose-. I'm assuming you used a saddle valve w/ a piercing stem, try shutting water supply off and getting some pipe dope on the stem and seat that you created. if that doesn't help, try redoing the saddle and making tighter.

  2. What exactly do you mean by cold water pipe? If you don't have a separate valve for the icemaker line, you could connect it to the cold water valve under the sink no problem. You'd have to get a valve with 2 outputs on it or at least a "Y". But if you have a dishwasher, there may already be a line coming from the cold valve under the sink. BTW - it's not actually a "cold" water line. It doesn't matter where you tap for the icemaker line. Just not the hot water valve. There is no cooler. Just a heater. The water is frozen in the icemaker so the temperature of the water going into the icemaker line won't be the reason the icemaker isn't producing like it should.

  3. Call a plumber

  4. As long as the connection is tight, it really doesn't matter where you hook into the cold water.  Ease of installation is the key.  Accessibility to the point of connection is another must, hopefully it has its own shut off valve, in case of trouble, so it can be turned off.  Good luck!
